When a Monster is Born

At naptime today, I read the story "When a Monster is Born" to Stephanie. Then we lay down and I told her to go to sleep or I would feed her to the monster under her bed.

S = "Once I crawled under my bed to check for monsters. There isn't a monster under there."

T = "So we have a faraway-forest monster then?"

S = "If a monster is faraway in the forest, then we can't see him so there is no monster . . .

And no bears . . .

But there IS a monster in the kitchen."

Me, Me, Me

If you don't watch Futurama, you should start. I promise this story would be a lot funnier if you do...

Everytime Stephanie tells me something, she adds her name onto the end.

Today in the van, she said, "I want to play on the computer when we get home. Stephanie."

On Futurama, it's Bender who does this - he'll say something like, "I thought of that. Me - Bender."

She doesn't add the "Me" part yet. But we're hopeful she'll start doing that. We are already calling her "Bender" though.

The Mummy Returns

I don't know how this girl does it.

She scraped up her right knee last week - I think it was on Monday. And every time it looks like it's going to heal up - she falls on it again!

She actually scraped the scab off of it today. Nasty! ~ shudder ~

Band-aids won't stay on very well because it's a knee and she keeps moving it.

So I went and bought some of that liquid spray-on bandage. I sprayed it on and, apparently, it burns! So I washed it right off and put another regular band-aid on.

If this doesn't heal up soon, I'm going to get some tape and gauze and mummify her knee.

Allergy Update

It was an allergic reaction to the sunscreen. After I posted the last post, her face, neck, arms, chest, and back all were covered with a rash. It looked a lot like the rash I got when I had my allergic reaction to Vicodin and whatever that other medicine was.

She looked awful on Sunday. And I was worried about Monday because I remembered my 2nd day was worse than the first but I was hoping the Benedryl would help.

Monday was worse. Poor little thing. She woke up and she was so itchy and sad. I gave her some Benedryl to drink and put some Benedryl lotion on her arms. My poor Sweetheart looked at me and cried, "I don't want my arms to be like this forever!" About broke my heart.

Then the medicine kicked in and she relaxed a little. She basically just sat on the couch and watched cartoons all day. We did have to go to the library after the kids got out of school but she was feeling better by then.

She took a good nap in the afternoon but just could not fall asleep at night. Therefore, Meredith also could not fall asleep. I ended up getting Stephanie up and letting her play in the living room for awhile before putting her back to bed.

Then I laid down with her for a little while. And she asked me the question that must have been weighing heavily on her mind: "Are unicorns made out of horses?"

I told her yes, they are. And she went right to sleep.

This morning, she looks SOOOO much better. Her rash is all but gone and her face isn't swollen anymore either. I'm still going to give her Benedryl today - she's still itching a little but she's feeling much better.
