Why Did I Stop?

I've just spent over an hour reading thru this blog. I really wish I had kept it going! But now I keep thinking "How did that girl survive her early years?" Every other post has her injuring herself!

She still just as crazy now. Though, thankfully, not quite as accident prone.

Just as I was typing that, I remembered on Wednesday, I think she and I had just taken the dogs out and she went back upstairs and I was following behind. She screamed, so I ran the rest of the way upstairs, and found my poor baby just crying so hard. It took awhile before she could tell me what happened. She walked into the kitchen and her shoes were wet so she slipped and fell and hit the back of her head on the floor. Poor little clumsy sweetheart!

First Communion

Stephanie's First Communion was today. Grandma and Grandpa and Aunt Joyce all got to be here. Hayden was one of the servers (Stephanie H's brother Joseph was the other one.) Meredith got to pass out the bulletins. Phil was pretty much annoyed that he had to sit thru Mass TWICE in one day but it was a really nice service.

Every kid in the Communion class got to do a little reading during the service and Stephanie was first. She was very excited to get to stand up in the front of the church to read to everyone.

Of course, it was pouring rain when left to go to the church so I covered Stephanie in my longest jacket and dug out all the umbrellas so we wouldn't look like drowned rats when we got there!

I bought her dress at Sears and Paula bought her veil at Gloria Deo in Omaha. She felt like a little princess.

Since the Mass was at 7pm, we didn't have a party at our house or anything but everyone went down to the church basement afterwards for cupcakes.

Salad

Last night I fed the other three kids sandwiches. Steffi and I had one of her favorites instead - salad! With shredded cheese and boiled eggs and bacon bits and tomatoes and croutons.

This morning, she asked if she could have salad for breakfast. I told her I wasn't going to make a salad for breakfast. So she asked if she could just have the tomatoes instead. I think she ate 4 of them. She would have eaten more if I would have let her. But I made her have yogurt too.

Quotes

Old quotes...

"You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough." - Mae West

"And forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair." - Kahlil Gibran, The Prophet   {because she would prefer to NEVER wear shoes!}

"Never travel faster than your guardian angel can fly." - Mother Teresa  {because she constantly moves faster than her feet can go!}

Some Homework

"I went to Worlds of Fun! It was fun. But it was a long ride. We had to get an Inn (stay at a hotel). We went on water slides. We got new toys. But we had to go home and go to bed. I liked the TimberWolf (roller coaster). I had some fortune cookies and an Icee and ice cream."

The picture is of Roscoe.

Love the teacher's note on this one!

Birthday News

I'm going to spell it so you can read it...

"I had a party, it was fun.
For my birthday, I got some toys.
I ate some cake and ice cream.
I got a Barbie doll.
I turned 7 two days ago."

Anybody want a Kitten?

We almost got a new kitten today.

Steffi, Phil, and I took Meredith to her softball game. We walked past a van on our way to the field and saw a kitten on the dashboard. I was kind of concerned. But the windows were down a little. Actually, that concerned me too because they seemed to be pretty far down. Not enough for a dog to get out but kittens are pliable and I just hoped he couldn't get out.

So we sat down on the bleachers at the game and pretty soon another lady shows up with the kitten! She found him playing in the grass by that same van and was worried he would get run over so she picked him up and asked us if he was ours. I said NO! but by then Stephanie had already wrangled the kitten from the lady so I sent her out to ask people around our complex if it was their kitten. She asked me if we could keep him if he wasn't anybody's.

I said no. (Like there is any way I would just leave a kitten to starve to death by himself.)

Luckily, she found the owner. And she had a great little adventure so she was happy.

Later, I saw her carrying a branch around and a couple of little girls were following her carrying their own little branches. She's a leader, she is.

Camp

Phil and I dropped the 3 older kids off at camp on Sunday at 4:30. Stephanie's counselor got her involved in a game of 'Duck, Duck, Goose' right away and the other two just wandered off to their cabin mates so Phil and I left while the leaving was good.

We picked Stephanie up this morning at 10:30. Then we took the long way home. We stopped in Tobias to play at the park and have a picnic. Then we drove home thru Western, Wilbur, and Claytonia before getting back to Lincoln.

Here is what Stephanie did at camp:

I rode a horse named Belle. She was yellow with a white mane.
I got to go in a canoe.
I went to a campfire and we got to sing.
We jumped in tires or else we would fall in the mud. And I fell in the mud a couple of times.
We were balancing on a log and the grown-ups helped me.
We had to fall backwards and the grown-ups caught us.
We did a balance beam and had to make both of the sides not touch the ground.
I got to go inside the petting zoo and pet two llamas (a brown one and a white one), a donkey, two cow babies, a mother cow, and lots of horses, and a baby horse.
And we went to the gift shop and the camp shop and I bought a cool fan!

There were 5 little girls like me in my cabin and we washed our feet in the water. There were leeches in the water so we had to do it fast. It was okay, no leeches bit me.

My counselor's name was Breanna. When I couldn't find my shoes at night and I had to go to the bathroom, she gave me a piggy-back ride.

Our Day - by Stephanie

This is me and Philip getting ready.

We went in the car to see the horses.

Mom buys me a drink.

I go up the stairs to see Hayden and Meredith.

I put my soda back and when I get thirsty I reach for it again.

Me and Philip build a sand castle.

I sit by Dad.

We watch people ride the horses.

Later, we sat on the couch and Mom took pictures of my book.

The End.

Soccer Picture & Update

This kid is actually pretty good at soccer. She's got some athletic ability for sure. Last Saturday she made the only goal for her team. It was COLD and WINDY and I was not enjoying being out there but she went out there and made a goal so I guess it was all worth it!

I hope she does as well at softball!

Soccer Game - April 21, 2012

It was VERY COLD this morning. Philip, Meredith, and I sat in the car most of the game because of the wind. Stephanie wasn't so lucky. Here she is playing goalie but she did also make the only goal of the game after this!
